CFA CE Event is hosted by Thomson Reuters
With the increasing amount of storage and computing power available as well as the emergence of the Cloud, data is more valuable than ever across all disciplines including finance. The general public has heard of "Big Data", however:
- What is it about?
- What scale of data are we talking about?
- Why does data behave differently at this scale?
- What will this mean for the financial world?
Speaker Ghislain Fourny will give an overview of the latest trends in the field of databases. Data comes in various shapes and he will explain how computer scientists think about it and work with it. He will explain these technical topics with many simple ideas and analogies, so that no technical knowledge is required. The field of Big Data is interdisciplinary and brings together people with different professional backgrounds and use cases.
The end goal of this presentation is that CFA members can also be part of this adventure by understanding enough on the topic on a high level, to interact with computer and database scientists -- and to be ready when these technologies will become a commodity accessible directly to non-technical people, like Excel and VBA already are.
