–  Recommendations for investors and financial analysts – how to evaluate board governance as part  of due diligence

Board Apprentice Switzerland Initiative 

– What is this initiative and how it is used in other countries to foster board diversity and widen pool for boards to consider
– How it may be adapted for Switzerland
– How CFA Members can utilize this tool – host company, apprentice, supporter

    Dr. Kate Sikavica, Erst & Young Center for Board Matters

    Before Kate Sikavica’s career as a board consultant with EY Switzerland and Korn Ferry Hay Group, Kate was an Assistant Professor and academic researcher at a number of national and international academic institutions, including the Kellogg School of Management, the University of Munich and Wharton. Kate is still active in academia with a focus on Corporate Governance and Shareholder Activism; as a consultant she helps Boards in improving their governance models, conducting effectiveness reviews and implementing regulatory guidelines. Kate holds a MA in communication science and Management of the University of Zurich and a PhD in corporate governance of the University of St. Gallen. She is also a Marie Curie Fellow and a Fellow of the Swiss National Science Foundation.

    Ellen Lederman, Non-Executive Director, Octopus AIF Management Ltd

    Ellen Lederman is an experienced executive in international financial services with a career spanning over 30 years including Wall Street capital markets, investment banking, impact investing (socially responsible), private equity, and lecturer in finance and economics. She currently serves as a Non Executive Director of Octopus Alternative Investment Fund Management Ltd and Chair of its Audit and Risk Committee. Ellen Lederman is a Certified Investment Fund Director and holds a Masters degree from Princeton Woodrow Wilson School of International and Public Affairs, a Masters from M.I.T. Sloan School of Management, and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Cornell University majoring in Economics. As part of governance training Ellen completed a one year Board Apprentice with a UK London Stock Exchange Premier Listed Investment Company. She has also completed the general course of CAIA. Her personality has been characterized as “friendly warrior” by STAB metrics (Struktur, Treue, Aktion, Beziehung).
