THE TRANSPARENCY AGENDA
Where is the drive for transparency heading and what does this mean for UHNW families and the Family Offices that serve them?
The current transparency agenda being promulgated by the OECD and implemented by its member jurisdictions, together with increasingly stringent AML regulation, means that large amounts of personal and financial data about the members of UHNW client families are being transmitted to, and held by, various governmental agencies, regulators and banks. Some of this data will be available in the public domain (Company Beneficial Ownership Registers and, in due course, Trust Registers) and there is a high risk of data hacking and leaks. For example, whilst there are international data security standards in place to supposedly protect the data exchanged under the OECD CRS, the recent hacking of the Bulgarian Tax Authority’s data resulted in the personal and financial data of some 5 million people being leaked. Furthermore, the Paradise and Panama Papers leaks demonstrate the ease with which data can be stolen and then made public.
Client families need to be aware of this and understand the risks that might arise as a consequence and which may be of concern to them. What are the responsibilities of the Family Offices that serve them and how can they help the families to mitigate these risks?
The event is exclusive for Family Office principals and executives. Registration by invitation only.
